Cathy Sparkman, Chairman of the Board

Catherine A.G. Sparkman has extensive experience in many aspects of federal and state law, emphasizing healthcare, insurance, corporate and regulatory law, and hospital and managed care financing and liability.  She also has vast experience as a private practitioner, as outside counsel for several hospitals and healthcare corporations and as Vice President and chief legal officer of Rocky Mountain Healthcare Corporation. Ms. Sparkman has served as Director of Government Affairs for the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, and Director of Government and Public Affairs for the National Association of Surgical Technologists.  She is trained as a mediator by the American Arbitration Association.  Ms. Sparkman has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations to include: City of Boulder Human Relations Commission, Planning Board, Library Commission, Colorado Women’s Foundation, Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, Colorado Chautauqua Association, Boulder Bach Festival and the Colorado Music Festival. Most recently, she served on the Board of Directors, and as President, of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Colorado, Inc. Ms. Sparkman graduated from the University of Colorado and the University of Texas School of Law.

Desmonne Bennett, Secretary

Desmonne Bennett is a partner at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, focusing her practice on complex commercial litigation, class action defense, and antitrust and competition law.  Representative matters have included monopolization claims, food and labeling law, M&A litigation, breach of contract issues, and trade secret litigation.  She has significant trial experience in large, complex cases.  She currently serves as a co-leader of the firm’s Lawyers of Color Affinity Group.  A Boulder native, Desmonne attended the University of Colorado for both her undergraduate studies (economics/psychology) and law school.  Prior to entering private practice, she clerked at the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

Steve Gimpel, At Large

In 1999, after a nineteen-year career in the tech industry, Steve began his second career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Steve's practice focuses on child custody issues and brings him in frequent contact with the legal system. Steve has also served on the Board of Directors of the Boulder Interdisciplinary Committee, the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Boulder Montessori School, and South Boulder Little League.

Dave Kimble

Dave Kimble, At Large

Dave retired in 2018 after working 40 years in computer software to be at the birth of his first grandchild. In his retirement, he volunteers his time and technical expertise to several non-profits, including EFAA, The Climate Mobilization, and our own Bridge to Justice. He and his wife have performed music, including for many social justice groups, for almost 50 years. They’ve also done concerts with their four children, three of whom are singer songwriters. 

Bruce Wiener, Ex Officio 

 

Mr. Wiener is the founder and Executive Director of Bridge to Justice and an attorney who practices in the areas of family law, real estate and general civil litigation. Bruce is also a court-appointed attorney representing the mentally ill in civil commitment hearings in the Twentieth Judicial District and a contract attorney for Boulder County Legal Services. Recognized on several occasions by the Boulder County Bar Association for his pro bono service, he received the Boulder County Bar Association Young Lawyer of the Year Award in 2012.
